COM 20

In continuation of my secret despatch

of October 29 th 1928 I have the honour to inform you

that Marshal Ii Chai-sum accompanied by General Chan

Ming-Shu and Ir. Chu Chiu-san and others arrived in

the colony from Changhai on November 20th and proceeded

to Cantin the same day. Before Muir departure Marshal li and his party accepted my invitation to

lunch at Government House arriving about noon and leaving just in time to catch the 2-15 p.m. train to Canton. The party included Kadame li and other ladies. Owing to the shortness of the Marshal's stay in Hong Kong it was not posible to arrange for a discussion of political questions and the gathering was of en entirely social character. It was conducted throughout in an atmosphere of extreme cordiality which the geniol presence of Sir Shou-son Chow did much to encourage. Marshal Ji left with many expressions or gratitude and with a pressing invitation to my wife and myself lo return the vicit in Canton. I explained to the Marshal that it would not be ossible for me to leave Hong Kong

until after Sir Cecil Clementi's return.
